In2023, Vilnius celebrated the 700th anniversary of the day when Gediminas, the ruler of Lithuania, wrote letters to "all the Christians, men and women, who are spread throughout the wide world", inviting them to come to the growing city. The ruler also invited traders, blacksmiths, craftsmen, cobblers, shoemakers, furriers, millwrights and others to come to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, to trade "freely, without any toll or duty, and without any hindrance". It is no wonder that the Kaziukas Fair that year also became a reflection of the legendary letters and another proof of the importance of craftsmen's work for the city, its growth and prosperity.
